The sorrounding
Villa Argentina
The building stands in 1868 in a vast garden located in Via A. Fratti, at the corner of Via A. Vespucci, in the residential district called "quattro venti" of Viareggio.
In 1926 the architect Alfredo Belluomini carried out the project of expansion and renovation, while the painter Galileo Chini intervened with numerous decorations both external and internal, which characterize the facades along the first floor, and are perhaps the most extensive and representative of the his work, with panels with geometric motifs alternating with decorations with figures of cherubs and birds and floral festoons in a very interesting succession from the compositional point of view. These decorations are very similar to those made by Chini for the "Berzieri" spa in Salsomaggiore.
Subsequently, the villa was transformed into a hotel and therefore underwent an expansion in the rear to the north, until it faced the prospectus on Via A. Fratti, in adherence to the already existing one.
The architectural forms assumed by the enlargement reflect the characteristics and the typology of the existing building, but without ceramics or decorations on the facade, while the turret with a view towards the sea represents the most significant element of the new building.
Even inside the villa, Galileo Chini has certainly worked, especially in the main hall on the ground floor, where rich decorations with silver stuccoes complement the great wall painting of G. Biasi, made in the 1920s and entitled "Departure for the hunt to the tiger ".
