Where we are

VIAREGGIO

it is a city known to most for its beaches and its sea, during the summer, and the sumptuous carnival in the winter.

Born as a fun pastime, the Viareggio fashion show has established itself since its very early years as an event of political satire as well as customs. Furthermore, as a resource in times of poverty: the crisis of sailing had left many craftsmen without work who would have made up for it by inventing chariots.
But perhaps not everyone knows that Viareggio is characterized, from an architectural point of view, by an almost "oriental" appearance, thanks to a series of spiers and spiers, domes and turrets decorated mostly in Art Nouveau style that emerge here and there in the urban landscape. If you then look at the villas, hotels and public places all decorated in ceramic, it feels like you are in Vienna or Paris.
This style, so unusual for these areas, has its roots in the late nineteenth century, when, attracted by the beauty of the place and to escape the summer heat of the hinterland, the wealthier segment of the population began to move to these areas and began to "color the landscape " with their elegant clothes, the ladies' parasol umbrellas and the gentlemen's strutting waistcoats.
.
And so, towards the end of the 18th century, the first bathing establishments arose (obviously strictly distinct for men and women), a Casino, a Theater and various accommodation facilities. These centers of modern worldliness were created by the local "shipwrights" themselves who, leaving aside their primary activity as boat carpenters, made themselves available to architects and designers, thus giving life to constructions and decorations in that "Liberty" style of wood" (a mixture of Japanese and Baroque) which embellishes and still characterizes Viareggio today.
On the night of October 17, 1917, a terrible fire destroyed almost the entire city.
The people of Viareggio immediately got to work, this time with stones and bricks, restoring what was possible and reconstructing what was lost, keeping the style unchanged. The Salone Margherita, the Imperial, the Eden café-concert and many others arose in this period.
